On October 12, 1960, when Castro's regime was in the midst of their terror, executing people after summary trials all over the island, La Campana firing range added some important executions to the list. Five leaders of the Farmer Guerrillas before taking their last breath yelled long live freedom before the bullets of the firing squad ended their existence. Plinio Prieto Ruiz, Porfirio Ramberto Ramirez, Jose Palomino Colon, Sinecio Walsh Rios, y Angel Rodriguez del Sol were executed that day.

Plinio Prieto Ruiz fought with Castro against the dictator Batista and held the rank of Commander of the rebel Army when Batista left the country. He had been an active union organizer and rebelled against the Communists when these began to destroy all the gains of the workers. He went up in the hills again in 1959. He was surrounded in one of his arrays near the town of Cumanayagua and was taken alive to Santa Clara. A summary court sentenced Plinio to death.
